BPO's Tap into Rural India's Potential, In January 2006, the Chennai based Lason India, announced that it planned to expand its full-time employee base by hiring around 1,600 professionals over the next few months. Lason India is a 100% subsidiary of Lason Inc., a US based Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company.

Introduction

In January 2006, the Chennai based Lason India, announced that it planned to expand its full-time employee base by hiring around 1,600 professionals over the next few months. Lason India is a 100% subsidiary of Lason Inc., a US based Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company. The company planned an investment of US$ 1.5 million to expand its operations in Chennai. Lason India was also one among the first BPO’s to realize the potential of rural India when it set up rural BPO operations in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

In Karnataka, Lason teamed up with JSW Steel Ltd., part of the O.P Jindal Group, where in JSW Steel would provide the infrastructure and Lason India offered training services to ensure work quality. Lason India also had plans to expand its BPO network to Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.


India has been the most favored destination for BPO services due to its large base of skilled labor and lower costs. This particular aspect has drawn the attention of many multinational corporations such as General Electric (GE), Dell Corporation, Lason Inc., and Bank of America to establish business units for outsourcing certain business operations...
